Gertrude Elizabeth Walling Winship

Gertrude Elizabeth Walling Winship, a lifetime resident of Sugar Loaf, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021. She was 86.

Born on Nov. 11, 1935, she was the daughter of Henry F. and Lillian L . Walling.

Gertrude was a nurse’s aide for 30 years at Mt. Alverno Center and Schervier Pavilion in Warwick.

She was a kind and loving soul who asked nothing of others, yet gave freely of herself. A humble person, she was happiest with the simple things in life.

Mom, you will be loved and forever missed. We Love you, “Sunshine.”

Gertrude is survived by her children: daughter Gail Valetta and husband Joseph of Buffalo; daughter Christine Cypher and husband Bill of Washingtonville; son Kevin Winship and wife Cheryl of Goshen; daughter Dana Click and husband Wayne of Wurtsboro; and daughter-in-law AnneMarie McKevitt, of Sugar Loaf. Proud “Mema” to her eight grandchildren: Chelsie, Ashley, Shannon, Samantha, Billy, Richie, Dustan and Hayley; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Charles Winship, and sons Wayne and Gary.

Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, with interment following the Mass in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Warwick, NY.
