Believe it or not it's next week.

The Downtown Warwick Merchants 17th anniversary of the traditional celebration of "Ladies Night Out" and "Queen for a Day" is scheduled for Thursday evening, Aug. 21, from 2 to 9 p.m.

The event has grown by leaps and bounds and is so popular that people have been known to reschedule their summer vacations to not miss it.

And for the fourth consecutive year, the event will benefit Safe Homes of Orange County, a nonprofit organization offering comprehensive support services to adults and children affected by domestic violence, as well as education and outreach programs for Orange County's communities.

On Oct. 15, Safe Homes will also honor event Chairs Tim Mullally, Mima Dinetz and the Merchant Guild at its annual Celebration of Hope Dinner.

"Ladies Night Out highlights the rich culture and quaint feeling of a tightly-knit community, connecting to celebrate and honor women." said Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier, Safe Homes' executive director. "It's a fun-filled night for all."

Whether strolling through stores offering extended shopping hours, tasting the flavors of the fine restaurants, dancing or simply relaxing at one of Warwick's many outdoor cafés, Ladies Night Out has always been an opportunity to join with friends and family for an evening of summer fun.

At 8 p.m., Mayor Michael Newhard will crown this year's Queen for a Day.

Mullally explained that Queen for a Day is an opportunity for a special lady to be recognized by her family and friends for her generous spirit, caring heart and selfless nature.

And to make certain the ladies have an opportunity to arrive and leave safely and in style for Ladies Night Out, Windsor Limousine is also offering to provide transportation to and from any home within a 10-mile radius of downtown Warwick for $20.

Downtown Warwick always buzzes with activity and excitement during Ladies Night Out.

Everyone is invited although the ladies, in particular, can expect to indulge themselves with specials, refreshments and treats offered by participating merchants.

Railroad Green will be closed for entertainment including a pole fitness demonstration and belly dancing.

In addition to the many specialty boutique stores in Warwick, there are also outside street vendors set up on Main St. and Railroad Ave. selling gifts, goods and services. The focus is on women's health, fitness, beauty and fashion.
