— Warwick's future Olympian continues his path to Rio. And his local friends are supporting him.

Louis Tafuto works day in and day out to fulfill a dream he's had since childhood.

Tafuto dreams of winning a gold medal in the triathlon at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

But the path to the Olympics is a hard one, requiring four or five hours of rigorous training every day. And there are no sponsors until or if he wins in the Olympics. He does not have access to any specialized facilities.

There are no days off and his total expenses could approach $100,000.

Recently, a group of local business owners and professionals have come to the rescue.

They have scheduled a "Virtual Triathlon," to help Tafuto fulfill his Olympic dream.

Dates and deadlines
Anytime beginning at 6 a.m. on Aug. 16 and ending Aug. 17, you can run, bike and/or swim in support of Tafuto no matter where you are by competing against his times and that of other participants.

The suggested donation is a $10 race fee and a $2 sign up fee. All donations will be contributed directly to Tafuto to pay for his training.

The registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15 and participants will receive an email as the date approaches on how to submit your times on the honor system to receive your ranking.

Local businesses and professionals are offering gold, silver and bronze medals along with additional prizes to Warwick residents with the fastest times.
