MONTGOMERY — Applications are available for the fourth annual Orange County Firefighter’s Museum & Fire Education Center’s 2014 Fire Prevention Educator of the Year Award.

This award was first presented in June 20111 when the Fire Education Center opened and Amy Conner, firefighter with the Good-Will Fire Department, was the 1st recipient.

Barbara Gasperetti, a first captain with Coldenham Fire Department, was the 2012 recipient of the award.

Chad Quackenbush, president of the Warwick Fire Department, Excelsior Hose Company No. 1, was last year’s recipient.

Educating children, adults and the disabled about fire safety and fire prevention is a worthy cause and part of the museum’s mission statement. It is also very important to recognize volunteers like Connor, Gasperretti and for the service they provide by educating our children on fire prevention.

The award is presented to an Orange County Volunteer firefighter for his or her commitment to the field of fire prevention and fire safety education. Criteria for this award include innovative ways of presenting fire prevention and safety education to the public.

Essential Nominating paperwork has been sent to fire departments.

Applications must be postmarked by April 19, the recipient will be notified on April 23 and the fourth annual gala will be held at the museum on June 7.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals or businesses that would like to recognize these volunteers along with the work being done at the Orange County Firefighters Museum & Fire Education Center.

Information on applications and sponsorship is available by email at ocfmny@gmail.com or by calling 845-457-9666.
