WARWICK — If you have an American Express card and you would like free money, this Sunday, Nov. 24, is an important date.

After 2 a.m. that day and until Nov. 30, you can enroll your card to be eligible for a $10 credit on any purchase of $10 or more. The purchase must be a single in-store transaction at a qualifying shop on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30.

The number of enrollments is limited so it's best to enroll early. Terms and conditions along with a map of registered small businesses are available at www.ShopSmall.com

Many of the downtown Warwick shops have registered and display the "ShopSmall" logos in their windows.

Mary Beth Schlichting, president of the Warwick Merchant Guild and owner of Frazzleberries Gift Shop, said that her popular shop is registered. And, as an added attraction, well known landscape artist Billy Jacobs will be at the store on Small Business Saturday with his in-store Folk Art Trunk Show.

His collection of primitive American landscapes will not only be offered at a 15 per cent discount but also eligible for the $10 American Express credit.

Although the credit is an incentive to shop locally on Small Business Saturday, it's not the only inducement.

Many of the shops will be offering their own incentives and there are always advantages to shopping local including personal service, saving fuel and time, avoiding unnecessary aggravation and fueling the local economy.

When you support local businesses you are supporting the community.
