WARWICK — Paul Kane, long-time Warwick resident and Orange County’s Poet Laureate, was recently awarded an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) from La Trobe University in Australia for his contributions to the cultural life of Australia and to the La Trobe University community.

Kane serves as the Artistic director of the annual Midura Writers Festival in Australia and the ceremony took place at the regional Mildura campus of La Trobe. Campus director Neil Fettling noted that Kane’s contribution has enriched and sustained one of the major cultural events of the regional arts calendar.

Kane teaches at Vassar College, where he is professor of English and of Environmental Studies.
