— The Downtown Warwick Merchants 16th anniversary of the traditional celebration of “Ladies Night Out” and “Queen for a Day” is scheduled for Thursday evening, Aug. 22, from 3 to 10 p.m., an hour earlier and an hour later than last year’s schedule.

The event has grown by leaps and bounds, and will begin an hour earlier and end an hour later than previous nights out. It also has become so popular that people have been known to reschedule their summer vacations to not miss it.

And for the third consecutive year, the event will benefit Safe Homes of Orange County, a nonprofit organization offering comprehensive support services to adults and children affected by domestic violence, as well as education and outreach programs for Orange County’s communities.

“Ladies Night Out highlights the rich culture and quaint feeling of a tightly-knit community, connecting to celebrate and honor women,” said Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier, Safe Homes’ executive director. “ It’s a fun-filled night for all.”

An evening of summer fun
Whether strolling through stores offering extended shopping hours, tasting the flavors of the fine restaurants, dancing or simply relaxing at one of Warwick’s many outdoor cafes, Ladies Night Out has always been an opportunity to join with friends and family for an evening of summer fun.

At 8 p.m., Mayor Michael Newhard will crown this year’s Queen for a Day.

Event chair Tim Mullally explained that Queen for a Day is an opportunity for a special woman to be recognized by her family and friends for her generous spirit, caring heart and selfless nature.

And to make certain the ladies have an opportunity to arrive and leave safely and in style for Ladies Night Out, Windsor Limousine is also offering to provide transportation to and from any home within a 10-mile radius of downtown Warwick for $20 round trip.

What to expect
Downtown Warwick always buzzes with activity and excitement during Ladies Night Out.

Everyone is invited although the ladies, in particular, can expect to indulge themselves with specials, refreshments and treats offered by participating merchants.

New for this year the Macy’s make-up counter team of professional make-up artists will be on hand to offer a special treat for the ladies.

Railroad Green will be closed for entertainment including pole dancing, belly dancing and Zumba dance fitness.

In addition to the many specialty boutique stores in Warwick, there are also outside street vendors set up on Main Street and Railroad Avenue selling gifts, goods and services. The focus is on Women’s Health, Fitness, Beauty and Fashion.

To arrange for transportation to and from the event call Windsor Limousine at 986-8667 or e-mail windsorlimo@gmail.com.
