— Few local businesses can make this claim: Roe Brothers Lumber, located at 65 Maple Avenue in the Village of Florida, just celebrated its 130th year in business.
On Friday, June 3, local officials and representatives of the Florida and Warwick Chambers of Commerce joined the owners, their families, staff and customers for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand reopening of Roe Brothers.
In addition, the fourth generation owned and operated business also unveiled its major expansion and renovation.
Roe Brothers made extensive updates to both the exterior and interior of the business over the past year, including the expansion of 5,000 square feet to the store.

Meet customer needs
The added square footage enables Roe Brothers to grow current product lines and add new departments, including lawn and garden, power tools, lumber, custom metal works and paint.
“We have called this community home for 130 years, and our expanded store helps us continue to grow to meet our customers’ home improvement needs,” said co-owner Scott Bieling.
His brother and co-owner Tim Bieling added: “Our updated store helps our team to better serve our loyal customers, as well as provide the community with a better overall shopping experience, thanks to a broader selection of products all under one roof.”
John, George and Luis Roe
Roe Brothers Inc. was founded in 1886 by John King Roe and his brothers George and Luis. And originally, with three locations in Pine Island, Chester and Florida, each was operated by one of the founding brothers.
They started out by selling coal and feed as well as lumber. Over time the Florida based location evolved and under the helm of Roe’s only, child Elizabeth Roe Bieling, in the 1950s, it became a successful and prominent lumberyard.
In the 1960s her son Arnold Bieling worked side by side with his mother and eventually purchased the business, successfully growing it to what it is today.
Tim and Scott Bieling, the sons of Arnold and Christina Bieling, are now the fourth generation involved in spearheading the future of one of Warwick’s oldest family-owned businesses.
