TUXEDO — Sterling Forest State Park is hosting two Ranger Adventures this month: Survival Skills and Night Hike to the Fire Tower. Here are the details:
• Survival Skills
Saturday, Aug. 18, 1 p.m.
Would you be able to survive a night in the woods with no fire or shelter? Join the Rangers and learn some basic survival skills that will help you in making it through the night.
Learn how to construct debris shelters and even how to start a fire using nothing but sticks and bark.
Then see a recreation of a Native American hunting camp used over a thousand years ago.
You will never have to worry about being wet or cold in the woods again.
This program is open all, adults and children, and all materials will be provided.
• Night Hike to the Fire Tower
Saturday, Aug. 25, 6:30 p.m.
Experience Sterling Forest in a whole new light and join the Rangers for a night hike to the Fire Tower.
Hike in the light of a full moon, stargaze and view the illuminated skyline of Manhattan. The hike will depart at 6:30 p.m. and will arrive at the Fire Tower in time to view the sunset.
Because the group will be walking back in the dark, head lamps or flashlights are a must and will not be provided.
All are welcome, and be sure to bring water, snacks and wear sturdy shoes.
Essentials• Parental supervision required for all activities.
