WARWICK — Local officials and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined Frances Cindy Hopper and her husband, Len, for the official grand opening of Sew-Cology on Friday, Nov. 16.

The sewing center, located at 19 West St. in the Village of Warwick, sells Husqvarna-Viking Sewing Machines with on-site factory authorized machine repairs and offers education classes, on-site machine rentals, monogramming services, alterations and custom sewing.

“I want to eventually expand my business to do more things in terms of sewing, classes,” said Cindy Hopper. “And in January, I will be hosting a neighborhood group for teens twice a month as a part of the American Sewing Guild.”

Hopper explained that the guild has a program called “Tell Another Generation,” where teens pay a one-half membership fee. The teens learn basic sewing skills and do charity sewing. The meetings are free for members.

Hopper has been sewing since she was very young and besides her years of experience, she perfected her trade with classes and seminars and owned a cottage industry, Attilio Designs, where she designed children’s clothing for small boutiques across the country.

She and her husband commute from Queens but they plan to move to Warwick next spring.

“We had been coming up to Warwick for at least 22 years when our children stayed at The Warwick Conference Center,” said Hopper who is a sitting deacon in the Reformed Church of America. “We belong to the Church on the Hill. We always said that when the kids go to college we would move up here. We’ve watched the Town change over the years and we have just stayed in love with Warwick.”
