State Police make arrest in the murder of a Warwick man 16 years ago
MIDDLETOWN — New York State Police from the Monroe barracks have charged a 40-year-old Middletown man in connection with the 2003 murder of James Keating of Warwick.
Felipe Campos was identified as a suspect in the Keating murder after an extensive investigation by the state police. He was charged with second-degree murder, a felony.
Campos was arraigned in the Warwick Town Court and sent to Orange County Jail.
Although no details were provided about how investigators came to suspect Campos, state police said the investigation is ongoing.
James Keating was found murdered in his home on Union Corners Road in the town of Warwick on Feb. 3, 2003. He was 55.
According to an Associated Press story from February 2014, when Keating failed to show up at his longtime job at Federal Express in Mahwah in northern New Jersey, a co-worker called police and asked them to check on him.
Police said they found Keating's front door open and his body inside the home.
Investigators say he had been stabbed to death.
The AP story also noted that Keating's family was offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
