Museum Village to host Lego construction tournament in January

— Museum Village and Bricks4kidz will host a Lego brick construction contest at Museum Village on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. to support the evolution of technology in America.

What you need to know
Here are the rules, according to the press release from Michael Sosler, the executive director of Museum Village:

Contestants will be tasked with building a Technological Machine Invention (past, present or future) and will be asked to describe the invention.

Participants must bring their own Lego bricks to use (no kits allowed).

Outside help from others during the competition is not permitted.

There will be two groups competing; 6 to 8 years old and 9 to 11 years old.

Teams can be an individual or no more than two people.

All applicants must be in attendance 1 p.m. for rules and orientation.

Ninety minutes will be allotted for build time.

Judging
Judging and an award ceremony will immediately follow.

Points will be awarded for relevance, creativity, originality, construction detail, use of technology, and application of engineering principles.

Prizes
Each group will have a grand prize winner and one runner-up.

Grand prize is a LEGO Technic Building set valued at $150 for the 6 to 8 age group and $200 for the 9 to 11 age group.

Runners-up will get a free week of Bricks camp.

Essential information
There is a $10 fee to register. Admission for spectators is $5.

Contest is up to 20 entries per category, and is on a first-come first-serve basis.

Contestants must pre-register at www.bricks4kidz.com/362 by Monday, Jan. 12.

Light refreshments will be served. Arrive a few minutes early to take advantage of the door prize raffle.

In the event of snow, the alternative date is Jan. 31.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Museum Village's educational programs.
