Albert Wisner Public Library to expand parking
WARWICK — Albert Wisner Public Library is about to undertake three capital projects designed to make the library more convenient, safe and useful.
Funding for the projects will come from a $158,000 grant from the New York State Public Library Construction Grant Program and from the Library’s capital reserves.
The largest of the projects will be the expansion of the parking lot, in partnership with the Village of Warwick, that will more than double the size of the existing parking lot.
A construction manager will be on-site to minimize disruption to library users. Nonetheless, occasionally some parking spaces in the lower parking lot will be inaccessible. Library staff members will be encouraged to carpool or walk to the library, and patrons are encouraged to do likewise when and if possible.
Construction is anticipated to last until early June.
PatioSimultaneous with the parking lot expansion, the outdoor grounds behind the library building will be enhanced as well.
A 70-foot patio will be installed along the wall for seating, concerts and other outdoor performances.
The grounds will be terraced for audience seating.
WalkwaysAccess to the grounds also will be improved by the addition of two new walkways:
• A grass path with solar lighting will extend from the back of the new parking lot to the back of the building, offering a more enjoyable route for walkers.
• A handicap-accessible paved sidewalk will be installed, extending from the sidewalk on McFarland Drive to the existing concrete pad behind the building.
